Confirmation
Confirmation takes
seriously the promises that parents, godparents, and congregations have made at
the baptism of our children. The confirmation journey (grades 6-9) includes
in-depth learning of the 10 Commandments, Lord's Prayer, Creed, and Sacraments.
The Bible is the main text for our teaching. Bringing God's Word to the
questions and relationships of our youth today is the main goal.
Confirmation meets on Wednesday evenings September through
May of each year. The Wednesday night sessions include teaching times by the
pastors, skits, games and small group breakouts with youth leaders. There will
also be a breakout time for parents.
Mentors, retreats, lock-ins, fun group-building events,
and monthly service opportunities are all a part of the journey leading to
Affirmation of Faith on Reformation Sunday of the 9th grad year (last Sunday in
October). Confirmation at St. James is strongly focused on the whole community
seeing Jesus at the heart of our relationships and faith community. Confirmation
is God's promises and our promises lived out intentionally, powerfully, and with
a lot of fun! We aim to Catch the Spirit!
The St. James now has a special group page on Facebook
that will have pictures from events, information for the youth as well as a
place for them to interact with each other. Check with Pastor Jill for more
information about this group page, called St. James Jazz.

Sunday School
The middle school
youth will join the opening of "9:57" on Sunday mornings and then break out into
their own group in the Bethlehem room.
Senior High Youth
The senior high
youth at St. James are invited for social time at St. James the 1st and 3rd
Thursday of each month from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Various social and service outings
are also scheduled throughout the year, from bowling to the haunted house at
Valleyfair. Sunday mornings also offer the youth a chance to socialize and learn
more about their relationship with God.
Each summer the
senior high youth go on a mission trip. In 2009, the group is planning at trip
to do service work in Grand Marais, MN. In 2008, the group went on a bigger trip
to Colorado. The relationships between the youth and God are strengthened right
before their eyes while on these trips.
The Senior High now has a special group page on Facebook
that will have pictures from events, information, as well as a
place for them to interact with each other. Check with Ryan Walesch for more
information about this group page, called St. James Lutheran Church-Senior High
Youth.
